The role of the Medical Secretary is integral to providing "Extraordinary Care" to patients and customers. Valuable skills in customer service, time management and setting pr! iorities are needed to be successful in this administrative po! sition. Looking for an individual that is able to manage multiple priorities and work independently to find solutions. Incumbent will be responsible for pre-authorization, verifying charges, and scheduling.
The Medical Secretary helps provides quality patient care efficiently and cost effectively by assisting the therapist and other providers in their specialized areas. The Medical Secretary may be involved in various activities including:
Managing patient phone calls consistent with standing orders and practice specific protocols
Providing administrative support by producing documents, reports, copies, record keeping, and by organizing and communicating efforts for therapists
Acting as a liaison between the therapist, physician and patient or hospital and other outside entities
Scheduling outside evaluation and treatment sessions
Insurance verification, coverage, and pre-authorization
Completing these duties pr! ovides the Medical Secretary the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of many on a daily basis as they interact with therapist, families, and insurance companies.
This position works at the Taylorsville Clinic as part of Primary Children's Hospital outpatient rehab team. The medical secretary may provide coverage for vacations, sick calls, or extended leaves at other Primary Children's Outpatient Rehab Clinics. Our team includes specialists licensed in audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation medicine and speech therapy.
Entry Rate: $12.69
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Shift Details: PRN position, scheduled as needed, no guaranteed shifts. Must be flexible to work at the various outpatient rehab facilities located in Taylorsville, Sandy, Bountiful and Ogden. Position will cover sick calls, vacations, leaves of absence and high census.
Incumbent must be available to work 40 hours per week (fu! ll-time) for a 12-week period beginning December 2013. During this 12-w! eek period, the schedule is five 8-hour days, Monday through Friday.
Department: Primary Children's Outpatient Rehab team located at the Taylorsville Clinic. May have occasion to work at other outpatient rehab facilities located in Sandy, Bountiful and Ogden.
Minimum Requirements
Three or more years of secretarial experience
Computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications and email
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in time sensitive situations, manage multiple priorities effectively, and to make prompt, responsible decisions
Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and telephone skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to problem solve
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
Basic keyboarding skills with the ability to type at least 40 WPM (words per minute)

Preferred Qualifications
Fluent in both English and Spanish, helpful to serve the patient population
One year of direct customer service experience
Clerical experience in a medical setting
Previous experience in a hospital, physician office, or rehab setting highly preferred
Knowledge of insurance authorization process strongly preferred
Admitting, billing, or collection experience
Experience working with medical charging/coding
Work experience with the following computer programs highly preferred
