The South Main Public Health Center houses a University of Utah outreach program for underserved women an! d children. Clinicians from the Department of OB/GYN, Pediatrics, and the College of Nursing staff the clinic and County employees provide front office and laboratory staffing. Facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient.

Assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker.

DUTIES

1. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures, pulse rate, blood pressure, height, weight, point of care lab results and responses to standardized medical history questions.

2. Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member.

3. Performed Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waved Lab tests ! such as urine dip stick, Hgb, Hct, finger stick glucose, urine! hcg and reports results to the appropriate personnel. May perform patient phlebotomies in accordance with clinic procedures and physician orders after specialized training.

4. Performs specialty skills such as suture removal, staple removal, straight catheterization, application of NST monitors, and injections (IM, SC, and intradermal).

5. Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested and assists with procedures.

6. Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas, and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levels, and restock set levels of items and necessary equipment repairs.

7. Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and, under the direction of licensed staff, answers general health questions, delivers clinical information, and schedules appointments, procedures, and diagnostic tests.

8. Assists in routine clerical functions such as recording medica! l information in patient's records, obtaining medical records from other providers, maintaining pap, delivery, and contraceptive logs, and entering charges for billing purposes.

9. Attends and completes mandatory inservices including infection control, safety, CPR, equipment usage, and procedures according to hospital and department policies.

10. Assists in patient and family education by providing educational material and general health information to patients and family members.

11. Supports communication between patients and clinicians via bilingual (Spanish-English) communication by triaging symptoms under clinician supervision and communicating test results and care plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program or current certification as an EMT- Intermediate in the state of Utah is required. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; demonstrated phleboto! my skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication s! kills also required.

Must be reliable, have strong attention to detail and be willing to work in busy, team oriented environment. Will work with a variety of licensed providers. Prefer proactive, professional individual with desire to provide excellent patient care. Seeking experience working in a clinic, preferably women's health. Performs limited patient care tasks and procedures under the supervision of a licensed staff member. Assistance from professional staff is required to solve problems related to patient care.
