Position Summary:
Performs non-technical procedures in support of the testing process
Essential Job Duties:
- Monitors daily temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, water baths and incubators. Reports out of specification values to appropriate individuals.

Monitors safety equipment, such as eyewashes, fume hoods, and safety showers. Reports out of specification observations to the Safety Officer.- Performs periodic maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Cleans durable laboratory equipment and glassware as directed. Prepares tubes and glassware for use in assays and reagent preparation.
- Monitors testing areas for radiation, swipes areas as directed and reports abnormal readings to management. If necessary, decontaminates areas under the direction of the Radiation Safety Officer.
- Prepares reagents, solvents, and other items to be used in assays.
- Retrieves and removes hazardous waste materials including biohazardous, flammable, toxic, corrosive, and radioactive wastes.
- Assists with stocking and organizing supplies and communicates needs to management.
- Provides general clean-up for the laboratories including changing absorbent paper, filling towel and soap dispensers, cleaning refrigerators and freezers, sweeping walk-ins and vacuuming filters.
- Performs sample management tasks such as volumization, labeling, storage, and preparation for disposal. Assists in locating missing samples.
- Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies.
- Documents all quality assurance activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job related duties requested by department management.
Shift: Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
Pay: $17 to $18 per hour
Required Education/Degree:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Certification/License:
None
Required Work Experience:
Previous experience or training in a health care environment or program or equivalent academic studies preferred.
Physical Demands:
Requires utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one’s feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping, lifting, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift up to 30 lbs is required.
Working Conditions:
There is regular exposure to potential blood-borne pathogens.
