Further informations about this career opportunity kindly see the descriptions. The EKG technician provides a valued role in administering quality non-invasive EKGs to inpatients and outpatients. In this exciting role, the EKG tech interfaces with physicians and allied medical professionals. The EKG! tech is an asset to the physicians as they are relied upon to provide accurate test interpretations. They ensure proper patient identification and accurately complete orders and patient billing. They perform routine maintenance of equipment and report any variances. They provide patient education and assure patient comfort. They are a vital link that makes a difference in providing exceptional patient care. Current enrollment in or completion of a 12-lead EKG Interpretation Course through Intermountain Healthcare preferred (or be able to pass the exams associated with the Intermountain 12-lead course).
Position and Purpose
To respond to and to perform non-invasive cardiac EKG diagnostic tests on all hospital inpatients and outpatients. To provide quality handling of test data, and to assist physicians in accurate test interpretation. Must have good communication, grammar and spelling skills. The incumbent will send correspondence/reports to physicians so ! communication, grammar, and spelling are very important.
Nature and Scope
This position reports directory to the EKG Lab supervisor. The technician must be able to provide age-specific care and intervention for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations. The incumbent will also work with allied medical professionals and networked Intermountain Healthcare facilities. Technicians will work with EKG physician panel members to provide quality EKGs as well as physicians and physician assistants in nuclear medicine studies. Incumbent must be diplomatic and must be able to respect and assist co-workers in all lab duties and assignments.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Must show appropriate concern for patients and maintains a good rapport with them. Makes sure that patients' rights of service, respect, dignity and privacy are protected. Patients entering the lab for outpatient procedures should be helped immediately.
Incumbent must perform a readable and accurate EKG on! hospital patients with correct lead placement and all demographic information correct. All EKGs obtained must be checked for possible previous EKG done. Technicians must know and follow the correct chain of events to take following obtaining the EKG.
All patient orders should be done promptly. Techs must respond to STAT EKGs within the appropriate time according to the STAT protocol. Responds to all Emergency Department pages at STAT 1.
Potentially may respond immediately to all calls for "code blue" by reporting to that location with an EKG machine.
Incumbent has a working knowledge of all lab equipment and all procedures associated with each test. Incumbent is responsible to be able to administer every test within the EKG Lab (to include Holter, event and blood pressure monitor hook-up, stress testing, and EKGs).
Must provide technical assistance and monitoring of all exercise treadmill studies performed in conjunction with nuclear med! icine as required.
Incumbent is responsible to mail interprete! d reports in a timely manner (within 12-24 hours of interpretation).
Frequently checks the CardioStation event monitoring system. Must have an understanding of event monitoring, and transmission of data. Must recognize life-threatening cardiac rhythms and can act appropriately (i.e. calling the referring physician or Medical Director) for best patient care. Incumbent is encouraged to seek help from more experienced co-workers (Editors or Holter Scanners).
Performs readable and accurate signal average EKG, rhythm strips as needed, as performs all paperwork and documentation associated with these tests.
Technician must learn the MUSE locations of all EKGs performed as well as be able to identify EKGs and other test procedures from all outreach locations. Care must be taken to make sure all EKGs coming from outreach locations are identified as such.
Identifies, appropriately responds to, and documents critical values for adult and pediatric ! patients.
Orders and completes all procedures on the computer, admitting patients where necessary. Follows through with all paper work, charting, filing, billing, delivering, processing of reports and filling out information in log books.
Responsible for cleaning and upkeep of EKG carts and lead wires. MUSE support should be notified for any equipment malfunctions or failures.
Attendance at monthly staff meeting is required.

Shift Details: ! 36 hours a week. Shifts are as follows:
Every other Monday 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM
Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM
Saturday 8:30 - 5:00 PM
Additional Details: Coverage to support the Emergency Department and EKG Department. In order to support the Emergency Department, a C.N.A. or EMT certification is necessary.
Minimum Requirements

Prior patient care or customer service experience
Prefer current enrollment in or completion of an EKG training course through! Intermountain Healthcare.
Prior electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) technical or interpretation experience.
