The Department of Geography invites applications for two tenure track positions starting 1 July! 2014. Each position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

(1) A Geographic Information Scientist specializing in one or more of the following research areas: urban, transportation, economic geography, and/or human-environmental interactions and sustainability. Successful candidates must have strong quantitative, computational and GIS skills and be able to teach advanced courses in spatial databases, geocomputational approaches and courses in their specialization.

(2) A Medical or Health Geographer specializing in disease ecology, spatial epidemiology, public health, or population health. Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative, computational and GIS skills. Candidates should be able to teach courses in applied GIS, health geography and courses in their specialization.

For both positions, competitive candidates will have a strong research record reflected in journal publications, conference presentat! ions, and external funding. The ability to collaborate with fa! culty within the Department of Geography and participate in interdisciplinary research at the University of Utah is highly desirable.

The Department of Geography at the University of Utah emphasizes scientific, quantitative geography within the focus areas of urban/economic systems, Earth systems science and geographic information science. The department offers Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Geography, and a professional Master's degree in GIS. The department is home to the Digitally Integrated Geographic Information Technologies (DIGIT) Lab which provides support for both theoretical and applied geographic information analysis and application development.
