Description: Intermountain Healthcare is employing Blood Gas Tech right now, this vacancy will be presented in Utah. The Blood Gas Tech independently performs laboratory tests on patients in all areas of the hospital. The tests conducted, samples obtained, and test results will be handled consistent with laboratory! policies and procedures. Provides care appropriate to the following specialty age groups: infant, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric in settings ranging from Intensive Care to Outpatient. At least one Blood Gas Tech needs to be continuously available on-site or on-call to handle questions or irregular circumstances.
Job Essentials
Schedules and performs a variety of laboratory tests and services critical to the clinical management of patients.
Clearly explains the procedure to the patient, including a brief description of the reason for the test.
Obtains and analyzes samples from the patient safely, accurately, and proficiently.
Ensures the quality of the results reported from the laboratory. Recognizes sample error conditions and responds to instrument problems appropriately
Records readings and transfers data to patient file using standard procedure.
Properly calibrates instruments and maintains the machine! s used in the laboratory following federal and certifying agen! t (CAP) regulations.
Calls and documents all critical values to nursing unit.
Shift details: This is a 12 hour a week position. Shift required is Saturday night 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM. Requires 2 on-call shifts Tuesday and Friday night.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma as required by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP).
This position requires verifiable current Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer CPR certification. An original card must be verified prior to start date or the job offer will be withdrawn. For additional information regarding CPR requirements please visit our Job Requirements Page .
Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
Carrying, Hearing/Listening, Lifting, Manual Dexterity, Pulling/Pushing, Seeing, Speaking, Squatting/Kneeling.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a health care sett! ing as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Tech or Medical Assistant beneficial.
