Job Summary
The Pediatric Motor Disorders Research Program, University of Utah School of Medicine is accepting applications. The programâs focus is on gathering clinical and genotype information in patients and their families and translating that information into effective clinical treatments. In addition to the duties of a clinical research coordinator, this position requires the skills needed to counsel patients and their families across a wide range of pediatric movement disorders including Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood, Myotonic Dystrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and other myopathies, neuropathies and undiagnosed movement disorders.
Responsibilities
- Assists with preparation, submission, and maintenance of IRB , FDA , NIH and other regulatory and research documents.
- Oversees compliance with protocol; maintains patient datab! ases; manages data collection, entry and review for quality co! ntrol; prepares reports for organizations and agencies.
- Contributes to developing educational materials and educating the community and other research professionals regarding studies and related research issues.
- Coordinates with referring physicians to provide information regarding available research projects and to maintain a strong referral basis.
- Monitors enrollment goals and initiates strategies to promote enrollment and participant compliance.
- Coordinates and performs responsibilities related to research participants including screening and recruiting subjects, obtaining informed consent, answering subject inquiries, overseeing study visits and acting as a liaison between participants and study-related parties.
- Assists with prior authorization for genetic testing; collection and processing of samples; and follow-up with post-testing counseling in person or by phone.
- Recognizes, tracks and reports adverse events and ! protocol deviations.
- Prepares for and coordinates site visits made by sponsors or federal agencies during the course and at the close of the study.
- Assists with development of study protocols and grant application materials, monitoring study budgets, and writing manuscripts.
- Represents the research program at meetings, national and international research consortia.
Bachelors degree in a health sciences or related field with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA , HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.
Departments may require IRB CIT! I Course or IATA DGR training within a specified timeframe.
Th! ere are two levels in the Clinical Research Coordinator position. The senior position is one salary grade above the junior position and requires department specific nationally recognized research compliance certification with an additional two years of experience to the minimum qualifications listed above. The incumbent is expected to complete continuing education courses to maintain required certification. Departments may require the senior Clinical Research Coordinator to perform higher level duties on occasion.
Departments may prefer a nursing degree for this position, which requires the incumbent to have two years related experience, posses a nationally recognized research compliance certification and be compensated at the senior level; one grade above the junior position.
Preferences
Masters degree in Genetic Counseling. Interest in clinical and genetic research and in family and pediatric counseling. Excellent written and oral communication ! skills. Ability to work as part of a team. Comfortable using computer databases. Familiarity with genomics and pedigree software such as Progeny.
