Job Summary
The Department of Pediatrics is looking for an Outpatient/Provider Coder Level 1 to join a centralized team that provides support to assigned divisions in Pediatrics. Responsibilities
- Abstract both inpatient and outpatient documentation for assigned division(s), assigning both CPT and ICD -9 codes or verifying physician coding for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with medical billing company to ensure maximum reimbursement and investigate denials and requests for additional information.
- Evaluate processes for collection of coding and billing information for efficiencies and provide recommendations.
- Provide education and feedback to providers for appropriate documentation of services to meet compliance.
- Reconciliation of provider visits and resolution of missing, incomplete, or inconsistent documentation.
- Pull records as needed for audits, internal monitoring, etc.
- Resolve suspended claims for coding related edits.
Minimum one year experience in a health care field or medical setting OR at least six months coding coursework. Basic knowledge of clinical documentation, proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and effective human relations and communication skills are also required.
Incumbents must obtain an American Health Information Management Association ( AHIMA ) or American Academy of Professional Coders ( AAPC ) recognized certification within 6 months of hire.
This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
Incumbents in this position must maintain their Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) as required by the American Health Information Management Association ( AHIMA ) or the American Academy of Professional Coders ( AAPC ).
