Job Summary

The Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Division in the Department of Pediatrics has an immediate opening for a Clinical Nurse. If you are interested in working for a department whose mission is to improve the lives of children, we invite you to consider this exciting opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • A significant component of daily responsibility will include assisting in the pediatric pulmonary and sleep disorders clinics coordinating care and providing patient education relevant to their pulmonary diagnoses.
  • Assist with daily phone management with patients’ parents. This will require chart review, triage and problem management, as well as addressing patient issues and concerns. A computerized message log system will be used to communicate these issues to the physician(s) caring for the patients. Explain results of x-rays, laboratory results and treatment plans with families both in clinics and by telephone, after review with their physician.
  • Educate parents and families on health care and specific pulmonary diagnoses. This education includes aspects of asthma management, nutrition, normal sleep and pediatric sleep disorders, psychosocial needs and respiratory support technologies (supplemental oxygen, CPAP , BiPAP, airway clearance devices, tracheostomies and ventilators).
  • Other duties may also include:
  • Assist with medication refills, communicating adjustments in treatment plans to families, home care companies and insurance providers. May need to assist with letters of medical justification for treatments or investigations.
  • Communicate pulmonary/sleep disorders management plans to services such as Otolaryngology, Gastroenterology and Rehabilitation Medicine in multidisciplinary clinics. Assist families in the coordination of their pulmonary management with the above (e.g. facilitate arranging bronchoscopy, other testing, hospitalization, and inpatient consultation).
  • May supervise and delegate some tasks to non-licensed department staff as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah or equivalency required. *If licensed in a compact state a Utah State license must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or must obtain one within one month of hire required.

Strong organizational and leadership skills as well as demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ), Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program ( NRP ) within one year of hire.

Care is appropriate to the population served.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah or equivalency required. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or must obtain one within one month of hire required. Strong organizational and leadership skills as well as demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Prior nursing experience strongly preferred, preferably in pediatrics.
