The position is responsible for provid! ing advanced life support for critically ill/injured patients at the scene or inter-hospital facility as part of an air transport team, under the stresses of flight and hazardous environmental conditions.
This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates the scene of an accident; triage patients and provides advanced life support and critical care.
- Assists with locating and establishing a landing zone for the aircraft.
- Provides and oversees direct patient care assessing and evaluating actual or potential health problems both while the patient is being extricated and during transport.
- Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for solving patient care problems according to needs and established guidelines.
- Transfers patients and equipment from aircraft, cart and gurney during the loading and unloa! ding transport operations.
- Provides written support documentation for transports.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Trains and assists new staff either at the scene or an inter-hospital facility.
- Provides in-patient I.V. services as required.
- Performs daily equipment checklist with documentation.
- Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
- Ability to provide care to the population served.
- Ability to maintain all AirMed, University Healthcare and AirMethods required trainings by expected due dates as outlined by the AirMed and University of Utah Annual Educatio! n Plan and Education Policy.
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of! a variety of all medical and aircraft equipment to include: ProPaqs, Infusion Pump, Lifepaks, Zoll, transport ventilators and other miscellaneous tools used in transport operations.
- Demonstrated competency with a variety of equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.
- Ability to attend at least 50% of staff meetings in person (on AirMed duty is considered in person), with 100% compliance on video tape meetings with follow up test.
- Ability to function during regularly scheduled, 12 hour, extended or alternative shifts.
- Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with death, multiple patients, family memebers, etc.
- Ability to deal with the hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients.
- Ability to maintain a weight less than 215 lbs. in a flight uniform at all times.
- Ability to lift and carry various weight and diame! ters of equipment.
Required
- Five years experience with a provider agency.
- Weight of less than 215 fully dressed for flight duty.
- Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) within one year of hire
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) within one year of hire.
- FP-C (Flight Paramedic Certification) or CCP-C (Critical Care Paramedic Certification) within two years of hire.
- Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.
- Certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Wyoming within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association on date of hire.
- ACLS card on date of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Pediatric Education for the Pre-hos! pital Professional (PEPP) certification.
Preferred
- Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) or within one year of hire.
