Description: Department of the Air Force is at present recruited HEALTH TECHNICIAN right now, this position will be settled in Utah. MAJOR DUTIES

:

As a

Health Technician, GS-0640-06,

you will perform a variety of paraprofessional medical support duties for several clinics, including: Geriatrics, Gynecological, Pediatrics, Deployment Readiness, Family Medicine and Surgical Health.

You will also:

  • Perform patient intake, examination support and discharge duties.
  • Utilize a variety of medical specific computer programs to make patient appointments, record patient histories, retrieve patient medical histories and prepare billing for Tri-Care and other insurance providers.
  • Perform a wide variety of treatments including dispensing prescribed medicati! ons, sterile dressing changes, and wound irrigations, cleaning and dres! sing abrasions.
  • Remove sutures, sterile packing of wounds.
  • Perform start of day, between procedures and end of day examination room reviews -AND-
  • Conduct patient and family instruction.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform.

Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related.

To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level

(GS-05)

pay band or equivalent.

Specialized experience

is described

as experience utilizing a working knowledge of standard medical technology and basic anatomy of the human body, physical and emotional reactions, nursing! care, and contraindications to medications to interpret providersÂ' communications; understanding of established procedures during medical and surgical procedures.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of the common elements of a patients care plan sufficient to provide appropriate verbal information and written facts for a plan of patient care.

2.

Ability to utilize a variety of specialty computer programs in the updating, retrieval and maintenance of patient electronic records; Knowledge sufficient to identify and use equipment; drugs, and supplies properly and to communicate proper use to patients and family members.

3. Knowledge of st! andard medical technology for the human body, physical and emotional re! actions, nursing care, pharmacology, and communications to medications sufficient to provide and gather information in patient care conferences with patient, and family members.

4. Knowledge of medical facility rules, procedures, and operating instructions including those relating to aseptic procedures; Knowledge sufficient to perform end of day business to include coding of patients episode of care by visit, telephone, or other related care.

5.

Knowledge of the nursing process sufficient to participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in all settings where patient care takes place; Considerable theoretical

knowledge, clinical experience and technical skill in order to independently asses-the physiological, psychological and socio-economic

need of each patient to determine the priority of patient needs.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE

:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid wo! rk on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.

OTHER INFORMATION

:

1. Work will routinely require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

2.

Technician is required to change into proper attire to perform duties within the examination room. Attire includes surgical scrubs, shoe covers, surgical cap and mask.

Prescribed limitations exist for hairstyl! e, jewelry and nail fashions in these settings for the purpose of safet! y and limiting the transmission of infection.

3. CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (Automated external defibrillators) certification is required with mandatory recertification.

4. Current and ongoing certification under current state statutes as a Medication Aide Certified or equivalent is required.

5. The position may be identified as "having regular contact with children", requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: INCUMBENT MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL SECURITY CLEARANCE AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

: The work requires long hours of continuous activity sometimes in cramped spaces when examination room equipment in use must be modified or maintained while in use. The work involves regular and recurring physical exertion.

Must be able to lift and move equipme! nt weighing 25 pounds and over with assistance;

Requires frequent bending, walking, lifting, stretching to reach objects, positioning patients, carrying, pushing, or pulling, heavy objects.

Duties require above average dexterity.

WORKING CONDITIONS

:

The work may require exposure to contagious and potentially fatal diseases (AIDS, hepatitis) through contact with patients.

The work may also be emotionally stressful during life threatening or other situations with extremely short response times.

Technician is required to perform duties on a daily basis around compressed gases and volatile agents.

In addition, there is regular and recurring daily exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, disorders, exposure to x-rays, etc, .The type3s of contagious exposures include, but are not limited to, hepatitis, staphylococcus, streptococcus, herpes, HIV. Safety equipment includes surgical attire, gloves, masks! , safety glasses and lead aprons.

It is the responsibility of ! the technician to observe reasonable safety precautions and to use appropriate safety equipment based on the expected exposure (i.e., lead apron during x-ray, etc.).
